Join us on the Kiwanis Blues Train on September ??, 2024. Get ready to have some fun while helping us raise money for a great cause; Ferst Readers. You will board our beautiful Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad at the historic depot in downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia. Your train ride consists of a one hour journey along the Toccoa River through the North Georgia countryside. During your ride you will enjoy live entertainment on each car, appetizers and soft drinks, beer and wine. Upon your return prepare yourself for the Block Party! Passengers will enjoy a boxed dinner; with beer, wine or soft drinks and listen to a live band.

What is FERST READERS you ask?
• Ferst Readers mission is to “strengthening communities by providing quality books and literacy resources for children and their families to use at home during the earliest stages of development.”
• We want every child to have the best start in life-and nothing helps a baby’s brain development more than exposure to rich language and loving interactions.
• The key is having books in the home and being read to—right from birth. Our vision is “to create better learners, brighter futures, and stronger communities by giving every child under 5 access to quality books in their homes.”
What They Do?
Ferst Readers was founded in 1999 to address the growing problem of children, many from low-income communities, entering kindergarten without basic early literacy skills and school readiness, a preventable problem that has far-reaching impacts throughout student’s lives. Children in this literacy program receive a bookstore-quality, age-specific book and resources mailed to their home every month until their 5 birthday.
